SMARTS “My Graphic Novel,” Grades 4-7

A graphic novel is a book told in a comic strip style, with an emphasis on the narrative. Graphic novels can be fiction, nonfiction, history, action, or fantasy, but all use thought bubbles, sound effects, visual action, and juxtaposition to create a compelling story. In this class, you will create a graphic novel of your own – it could be about a magical pet that time travels and fights crime or turn yourself into a superhero and save your town. You will learn how to create imagery and use different types of lines and storyboarding formats to construct your story, from the example of Laura Lee Gulledge’s graphic novel “Page by Paige.”
