A zine is short for magazine, and is essentially a mini magazine that is self-created and self-published. Zines are a form of communication for enthusiasts, marginalized groups, fans, and subcultures of mainstream society. Historically, zines were created based on science fiction, feminism, social activism and even cartoons. Their focus can be on anything: poetry, politics, fanfiction, art & design, music or anything on the outside of mainstream culture. In this session, we will create our own individual SMARTS Zine. This will require us to make decisions about the color palette, font choice, topic, desired audience, and what we want to create and say with our voice. Students must bring their own labeled lunch and drink.
