The SMARTS Advocacy Network

SMARTS does not simply have a desire for more arts programming. We are advocating for the recognition that quality arts education is a fundamental component of a complete education, and access to it should not be determined by circumstance. This principle can unite parents, teachers, artists, students, school administrators, donors, and policymakers around a shared responsibility for every student's future.

The most powerful advocates for SMARTS are the people who know its impact firsthand: our parents, students, families, community teaching artists, staff, donors, volunteers, and community friends and stakeholders. Advocacy does not have to mean giving a speech to a legislator or understanding complicated public policy. It means sharing your SMARTS story, speaking up for arts education, and helping decision-makers understand why SMARTS matters to you and our community.

SMARTS advocacy is about two connected goals: protecting and expanding access to quality PK–12 arts education and ensuring that SMARTS has the community support necessary to continue to grow.

The future of SMARTS depends on our collective voices and actions. I invite you to join the SMARTS Advocacy Network and help us champion arts education, strengthen community support, and ensure that every child can create, connect, and thrive.

How you can advocate for SMARTS—

  1. Share your SMARTS story: Your story is powerful evidence of why arts education matters.
  2. Amplify the SMARTS message: Share why quality arts education is important and what SMARTS does to make that possible.
  3. Bring new people into the SMARTS community: Connect new people to SMARTS to experience it firsthand.
  4. Speak up in your personal and community circles: When opportunities arise, explain the value of arts education and the role SMARTS plays in our students’ lives.
  5. Contact elected officials and school administrators in your community: Tell them why quality arts education matters to all children and ask them to connect to SMARTS and support public funding, policies, and programs that expand arts access.
  6. Help us to build a collective voice: Join SMARTS Advocacy Network today.
